We founded Inverze because Ostrava and the whole region lacked a modern, professional and ecological literary festival. A festival with an attractive program for people across generations and with various cultural tastes. But not only fans of literature and art desired such a festival; also the performers (authors, poets, and artists across the genres) needed an event, which would let them present their work. The Moravian-Silesian Region has a turbulent history, which applies also to the literature and many great works of local authors. The contemporary scene is rich, diverse and filled with energy. Although two popular literary events (Měsíc autorského čtení, Protimluvfest) annually take place in Ostrava, the younger generation requires a more diverse and progressive festival with a colorful program. A festival which will once and for all remove the stigma of Ostrava as a purely industrial town. Inverze has become a popular social event. It connects fans with authors, experts, publishers, booksellers, cultural organizers and artists across genres. However, it has much bigger potential and with the support of the Visegrad Fund, it can become an important cultural event in the international context. Ostrava has a huge and so far unused potential - it is uniquely located on a tri-border and is easily accessible from all Visegrad countries. A modern festival such as Inverze (we also promote new forms of literature and focus on contemporary art) is missing in the region. Our mottos are - Literature reflects society. The word stands at the beginning of every story.
The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
